If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I love planning. Here lately, I’ve been more into making my own planner pages and stickers than using pre-made things bought from the store.
For WEEKS, I was printing and cutting labels for my teacher happy planner and having all kinds of extra cut marks. It looked so MESSY but honestly, I was in such a hurry to get the labels printed so that my planner would be functional that I didn’t take the time to figure out how to fix the mess.
Well, well, well. Today – I’m here to tell you that I HAVE figured out the solution to my problem + I want to share it to save you the time {if you’re here because you are in the same boat I was in}!
#1 – Open up the Silhouette Studio software.
I use the very basic {free} version of the Silhouette Studio software. If you have the fancier version, this may be slightly different for you.
Open up a new document in Silhouette Studio. Be sure that you make your page settings to 8.5×11 and turn on your registration marks. This is very important since you will be printing the document prior to cutting it!
#2 – Type the words/phrase you wish to make into your sticker.
Type the words you want to make into a sticker. I usually start out with keeping the font HUGE while I choose which style I want. That way I can see it easy and I don’t have to fiddle with zooming in just yet.
#3 Finish formatting your phrase
Finish formatting your font. Change the color as you want to have it, take off the outline if you don’t want it there. For my example, I made my font black and my outline transparent/none.
#4 Resize your image to how big you want your sticker to be
Here’s one of the fun things about making your own stickers – you can make them ANY SIZE YOU WANT. You can make them fit ANY PLANNER YOU WANT. You can make them fit into any section of your planner that you want!!! So – decide where you want your phrase and resize!
#5 Select your text and “offset” it
You will find the “offset” tool on the right side of your screen. It is a star with a solid star on the inside of it {see the blue selected tool on the photo}.
#6 Decide how close you want your Silhouette to cut around your text
At this point, you can play around with how far away from the text you want your Silhouette to cut. I like to get the offset fairly close to the text – 0.050in away to be exact. I feel like it gives a good amount of space but it’s not too far away.
HERE is the part I used to stop at before – if you notice, there are cut lines inside of my letters. For the longest time, I couldn’t figure out how to make it stop cutting those!! Keep reading to find out how I solved the problem.
#7 Erase the unwanted cut lines
To get rid of the unwanted cut lines, be sure that the arrow tool is selected. Pick a cut line that you want to get rid of. Double click on the line. When you do that, there will be boxes that pop up all over the design. You can simply click on one of the boxes and press delete and it will disappear! Keep going until all of the unwanted cut lines are gone.
There you go!! It was such an easy fix, I can’t believe I struggled with it for so long.
