Pre-school and kindergarten is a super fun time as a parent. Your child is learning at rapid rates and is on the verge of becoming a true reader. Do this fun hidden sight word activity to boost your child’s word recognition!
Supplies:
- Paper (watercolor art paper is the best, but you can use whatever you have!)
- Black and white crayons
- Watercolor paints
- watercolor brush (or any brush will probably be fine!!)
First, draw circles on your page with the black crayon. However many sight words you’re practicing will depend on how many circles. You can also do the alphabet if your child needs help with letter recognition!
Then, write the sight words in the circles with your white crayon. Be sure to get LOTS of the white wax from the crayon on the page or else it will be hard to see the words when they’re painted over.
Have your child paint one circle at a time on the page. I don’t suggest using light yellow – we tried it the first time around and it didn’t work out well in this hidden sight word activity.
When the word (or letter) is revealed, see if they can identify it! You can also write a sentence with the words you used at the bottom of the page and see if they can read the sentence!
