Cheese. My dogs are OBSESSED with cheese. They prefer cheese over all other kinds of treats and food. Sky, our husky, literally can’t sit still when she sees cheese. She immediately starts drooling everywhere and staring the cheese down as if she could make it get in her mouth with her mind. I decided to create this cheesy dog treat recipe to see if it would satisfy their need for cheesy treats.
What you’ll need for this cheesy dog treat recipe:
- 1 sweet potato
- 1 cup of oats
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 egg
- 1 cup of shredded cheese
First, boil the sweet potato.
Chop up the sweet potato into chunks. I left the skin on but I think it’s personal preference. Get a pot of water and boil the sweet potatoes until they are soft. Drain.
Next, combine the ingredients.
After I drained the sweet potatoes, I put them back into the pot that I boiled them in. I added the oats, flour, honey, olive oil, egg, and shredded cheese. I used my Kitchen Aid Hand Mixer to get everything nice and combined.
After that, use a cookie scooper to portion out the mixture into small balls on a cookie sheet.
I put parchment paper down on a cookie sheet to avoid sticking. Then, I used a cookie scoop to get equal sized portions on the cookie sheet. Using a tablespoon or a regular spoon would work just fine as well.
Last, BAKE them!
Bake the treats at 360 degrees for 40 minutes. Let them cool and then store in a plastic bag. I’m not 100% sure how long they will last, however, I’m guessing a few days.
My pups LOVE these treats. They also love the delicious birthday cake that we made for Princess’ 3rd birthday the other day! What is your dog’s favorite treat?
