Did you play memory games as a child? Memory games are incredibly beneficial for children and adults! Here is a list of 5 benefits of memory games for kids.
1 – Memory games improve concentration and attention span!
2 – They help to increase short term memory and exercise visual memory skills!
3 – Memory games improve attention to details.
4 – Doing memory games can help improve vocabulary and creativity!
5 – Memory games work on quick thinking skills.

All of those benefits of memory games are amazing, right? Both of my children play memory games regularly to continually work on those skills.

I’m trying to step up my homeschooling game a bit since it’s looking like school will be out until next year. My son, Grayson, is in pre-k and is essentially missing the second half of his year. He needs to get in gear for Kindergarten next year – so sight word training is on my list of things to teach!

I grabbed this sight word list from Teachers Pay Teachers. This sight word memory game is the “primer” list of words. It’s perfect for little ones that are in pre-k, kindergarten, or perhaps even those in 1st grade that need a refresher on common sight words!
Important Instructions:
- Print your cards on colored paper or card stock so that your kiddos can’t see the words from the other side of the card.
- Have your kiddos try and READ the sight words every time they turn the cards over. This is how they will truly begin to benefit from playing a sight word memory game!
- It should be noted that the ENTIRE list shouldn’t be played in one sitting… unless your kiddos are really up for a challenge! I used about half of the words in the list per round.
- If you have NO idea which words your child recognizes already, show them the words first and sort them into piles of “know” and “doesn’t know”. Play the game with a mixture of each so that your little one doesn’t get completely frustrated the entire time.
